Abstract


Objective: In oder to know the status of the oral health for disabled persons in Korea, dental survey with the questionnaire was performed.

Methods: Two thousands and twenty five of such disabled persons as physical disability, intellectual disability, brain disability, vision disability, hearing disability and autism spectrum disorder were participated, in the age of 6, 9, 12, 15, 20s. 40s. and over 65, from 50 facilities for the handicapped. Such items as a person who perform the toothbrushing, toothbrushing time and the daily frequency, the reason why visiting dental clinic, recognition for the systemic health and the oral health, the frequency for visiting dental clinic were examined with the interview method.

Results: The average frequency of daily tooth brushing was examined as 2.64 and the rate of the helpers need for the oral health care was 40.6%. The disabled persons think of their oral health as worse than that of non-disabled, and the reason for dental visit was revealed as the most in periodic dental examination as 44.3%. The last dental visit was examined as 31.7% of them within 6 months and 60.7% of the subjects have experienced the dental clinic within a year.

Conclusion: Oral health care centers should be established and managed, in order to care the oral health for the disabled persons continually.
